Moon Magic is back!
I began writing about the influence of the Moon on our lives years ago with The Healers Almanac, Wisdom from the 21st Century
Goddess. In this refreshed Moon Magic series, I explore the New and Full Moons as collective energy or cosmic weather that helps us understand timing, cycles, and conscious choice. Each month, I also include the Goddess of the month and a ritual or practice to help you connect with the symbolism of the Moon in a grounded, practical way.
March’s New Moon Theme is about Soft Endings and Sacred Beginnings
The March New Moon arrives in the sign of Pisces, the final sign of the zodiac. This makes it a powerful closing Moon, not just for the month, but for the entire astrological year.
Pisces teaches us that not all beginnings start with action. Some begin with rest, release, forgiveness, and surrender. Before we rush into Aries season and the energy of fresh starts, this New Moon invites us to pause and gently clear the emotional and energetic clutter we’ve been carrying. This is a Moon about soft endings, the kind that create space for healthier beginnings.
Collectively we may experience heightened sensitivity, intuition, and empathy. Take a moment to notice what you’re feeling:
-
A deeper need for rest or quiet time?
-
Emotions rising to the surface, sometimes unexpectedly?
-
Are old stories, memories, or feelings asking to be acknowledged and released?
-
Do you have a longing for meaning, connection, or spiritual grounding?
Rather than “fixing” anything, this New Moon asks us to listen. Pisces works through feelings, dreams, symbols, and inner knowing. So, if things feel a little foggy, that’s okay. This isn’t the moment for crystal-clear answers. It’s the moment for honest reflection.
Deirdra’s Soft Fire New Moon Reset
For this moon, You’ll be working with Deirdra, the Goddess of Passion. If goddess language isn’t your thing, you can simply relate to Deirdra as an archetype of renewed life-force—the part of you that comes back online when you finally exhale. Deirdra supports expression and vitality that can move forward without regret, guilt, or shame. This makes her a surprisingly perfect guide for forgiveness and surrender work.
Think of this as soft fire not a push, and definitely not a blaze. More like the warm glow of a hearth fire meant for gazing and warming your toes.
What you’ll need
-
1 candle. I recommend Astro Magic The Moon or New Moon, or Aunt Jacki’s Healing RX.
-
A bowl of water (for cleansing and emotional release)
-
A cozy shawl/blanket (this is a rest practice)
-
Journal or piece of paper and a pen
Optional: a hand held drum or simply your hands (gentle rhythm supports the body in letting go).
The Soft Fire Practice, Step-by-step
1) Begin with a pause
Light your candle. Place the bowl of water beside it.
Read your anchor line (out loud if you can):
“New Moon invites me to pause and gently clear the emotional and energetic clutter I’ve been carrying. This is a Moon about soft endings, the kind that creates a space for healthier beginnings.”
Then place one hand on your heart and one hand on your low belly.
2) Create a calm, protected container (so your body can exhale)
You will be building a loving, steady energetic field because your system releases more easily when it feels safe.
Close your eyes and breathe slowly.
-
Imagine a warm light in the center of your chest.
-
Let it expand gently around you like a soft cocoon.
-
Feel your weight supported by the earth.
-
Imagine a gentle light above you meeting you without pressure.
Say:
“I am safe to soften. I am allowed to rest.”
3) Connect with Deirdra’s “restorative passion”
Deirdra’s work is associated with the low-belly center. This is a place in your body linked to creativity, emotional flow, pleasure, and life-force (also called the second chakra in Eastern Religions).
Rest your hand there and say:
“Deirdra, restore my life-force through rest.
Bring passion back as tenderness.
Not as striving. Only as life returning.”
Take 7 breaths, making your exhale slightly longer than your inhale.
4) Add a gentle rhythm (a “release valve” for the nervous system)
If you have a drum: play softly.
If not: tap lightly on your thighs or over your low belly in a slow heartbeat rhythm.
This is inspired by Deirdra’s rhythmic practice, but done in a soothing frequency so it supports surrender rather than stimulation.
As you tap, imagine the bowl of water quietly receiving what you’re ready to release. Imagine it being gently pulled out of you and into the bowl of water.
5) Rest and Release: the “soft ending”
Say each line slowly. After each one, exhale.
-
“I release what I carried past its season.”
-
“I release the version of me that had to survive.”
-
“I release emotional clutter I don’t need to understand today.”
-
“I release the pressure to be ready before I’m rested.”
If emotions rise, let them. This is a water-sign New Moon. So release doesn’t have to be dramatic to be real. Let it flow gently.
6) Forgiveness (the doorway back to vitality)
Choose one prompt. One is enough.
-
“I forgive myself for ______.”
-
“I forgive myself for not knowing then what I know now.”
-
“I forgive ______, not to excuse, but only to free my body of its tension.”
Then dip two fingers into the water and touch your low belly, then your forehead.
Say:
“I am released. I am restored.”
This is where Deirdra’s medicine lands strongly. You are being freed from the drag of regret, guilt, and shame so your energy can return balance and renewal.
7) Surrender: plant a New Moon seed that grows in the dark
New Moon intentions work best when they’re soft and livable. Think of this as more of a devotion to life than demand for justice.
Write one sentence:
“This lunar cycle, I surrender ______, and I allow ______.”
Examples:
-
“I surrender self-judgment, and I allow gentle desire to return.”
-
“I surrender control, and I allow rest to reorganize my life.”
-
“I surrender resentment, and I allow peace to become my power.”
Hold your journal against your low belly and say:
“Let my passion be the quiet yes that returns after rest.”
8) Close and integrate
Now's the time to write down what you experienced. Record your feelings, images, body sensations. This is teaching you how the insight becomes usable in real life. For example butterflies in the tummy means you don’t feel right about something and to pay attention.
Write a few lines. Nothing polished, just true.
Blow out the candle and say:
“The ending is soft. The beginning is already forming.”
Then do one restful thing immediately: drink water, take a bath, go to bed early, or sit in silence.
Here’s a one-minute version (for nights you’re already exhausted)
Hand on low belly. Long exhale.
“Restore my life-force through rest.
I release guilt, shame, and regret.
I forgive. I surrender.
Let my next beginning be kind.”
That was nicely done, good job. I know it’s a little longer than most of my other rituals or practices, but honestly, releasing the nervous system has its own timing and rhythm. I hope you didn’t rush it!
One more thought for you. If you’ve been waiting to feel inspired, motivated, or “back to yourself,” let this be your reminder: sometimes passion doesn’t return through pushing. Sometimes it returns through permission to rest, to release, to forgive, to surrender… and to let your spirit find you again. The Waabi Zen spray is delightful and can keep you feeling relaxed or return to relaxed after one of those days.
Take what resonates and leave the rest. This practice isn’t about doing it perfectly—it’s about giving your nervous system a kind, clean reset.
Until the next Moon Magic.
